So many of you have asked how I got my interest in Formula 1, so grab a drink and come hither, it’s story time.
Three years ago when I met my husband, he would always have Formula 1 races on pretty much every weekend. There was not one race that he missed. He is a very avid fan! On our honeymoon to the United Arab Emirates, he took me to Yas Island in Abu Dhabi so we could just see the Formula 1 track from the outside! I didn’t get it then because I had no context. I wasn’t paying attention. I simply wasn’t a fan.
As the years drew on, I began playing slightly more attention, but the real game changer for me was the announcement of the inaugural Miami Grand Prix in 2022, right in our local area at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens!
The Miami Grand Prix will transform Hard Rock Stadium, into The Miami International Autodrome. This will mark the first time, in history, that a predominantly African-American city will ever host Formula 1! Now if that didn’t get my attention, I don’t know what would have?!
When you look at me, I guess I wouldn’t fit what most people think of as a Formula 1 racing super fan. However, Formula 1 is a sport that has an unrivaled global reach. People from all walks of life come together and celebrate in a spirit of unity and inclusion.
Now I would love to tell you that I hopped on the Formula 1 train for all these glorious reasons, but the truth is, I am here for the DRAMA!! Yes, high speed motor racing is exciting enough on it’s own. That’s true.
However, when you understand the behind the scenes action; when you know which drivers are rivals, when you know which teams are pitted against each other, when you known the hardships a particular team faces, when the races are close, the points even closer, and the championship is within reach for more than just one person, ahhhh the thrill!!!
The adrenaline by proxy is REAL!
And now that Formula 1 will be in my area, with the inaugural Miami Grand Prix right in my own backyard! You best to believe I’m stepping up my knowledge of the sport ALL the way up! I will NOT be lost, dazed, or any kind of confused. I want to understand what is happening and know what is going on! Tickets are not on sale yet, but you best believe we have already placed our deposit for hospitality suites. We are playing ZERO games when it comes to securing our position at the race.
What’s your Formula 1 story? How did you become a fan? If you’re new to the sport, what brought you in? Will you be going to the Miami Grand Prix? Let me know in the comments below.
